Gastronomy in Playa del Carmen
With so much tourism, in Playa del Carmen there are restaurants of all kinds and for all tastes. There are international, Mexican, Caribbean, regional and Yucatecan food. Personally, we love the food of the Yucatan Peninsula, so much so that we have dedicated an article to the typical dishes of Yucatecan cuisine that we tried during the two months of our trip. The panuchos and salbutes from the markets, stuffed cheese, tamales, poc chuc and, of course, cochinita pibil are the most typical. And the marquesitas, of course.
But here we are on the coast, so there is not only meat and cheese, there is also seafood cuisine. If you want to eat fish and seafood , Playa del Carmen is also your place. Lobster, fish at Tikin Xic – seasoned with sour orange, onion, achiote, chili and other spices – shrimp cocktail or Mexican ceviche – quite different from the Peruvian one – are some of the dishes you have to try.
